DGL, Deglycyrrhizinated LicoriceDeglycyrrhizinated licorice (DGL) is an extract of the root of true licorice, Glycyrrhiza glabra, with the glycyrrhizinic and glyceyrrhetinic acids removed. This avoids the undesirable effects of licorice, including hypertension, water retention and hypokalemia. Actions: DGL may have peptic ulcer-healing activity. DGL has been shown to stimulate mucus formation and secretion. DGL contains some flavenoids that have antimicrobial activity, including activity against the ulcer-causing bacterium Helicobacter pylori.
