Ptychopetalum olacoides, Muira puama

Muira Puama is a small tree native to the Brazilian Amazon. It has been in the Brazilian Pharmacopoeia since the 1950s. Brazilians consider it a powerful aphrodisiac and sexual tonic. It is also used for asthenia and paralysis, neuromuscular problems, baldness, menstrual ailments, rheumatism and nervous system disorders.

The German Commission E Monograph has not approved Muira Puama due to the lack of research. Only two studies have been conducted by the Institute of Sexology with excellent results, however, it was not tested against a placebo.
