Colestipol, Colestid Description Colestipol is a bile acid sequestrant used to lower cholesterol. Action bile acid sequestrant Indications high cholesterol Side Effects abdominal pain, cholelithiasis, constipation, diarrhea, GI bleeding, headache, hypoprothrombinemia, nausea/vomiting, peptic ulcer, steatorrhea, Drug-Vitamin-Herb Interactions Positive interactions: Folate Bile acid sequestrants may cause folate deficiency. Supplementation with 5 mg daily may prevent depletion. Vitamins A, E, K, and B12, iron, and calcium. Bile acid sequestrants impair the absorption of several nutrients, including vitamins A, E, K, and B12, iron, and calcium.
