Side Effects

Atrophy of the epidermis, subcutaneous tissue, and dermal collagen, drying, cracking, and tightening of the skin., Relatively low risk of HPA axis suppression., Intranasal: nasopharyngeal irritation, burning, stinging, dryness, and headache.

Drug-Vitamin-Herb Interactions


Negative interactions:

Licorice
Licorice may raise levels of corticosteroids, thereby increasing their side effects.


Mixed interactions:

Chromium
Chromium may help control corticosteroid-induced diabetes.


Positive interactions:

Calcium and Vitamin D
Calcium and Vitamin D may help reduce the side effect of osteoporosis associated with corticosteroids.

DHEA
DHEA may help protect against some of the side effects of corticosteroid use.

Aloe and Licorice topically
Aloe and licorice topically may boost the effects of hydrocortisone against acute inflammation.
