Ipratropium, Atrovent Description Ipratropium is a cholinergic muscarinic antagonist, which blocks muscarinic receptors in the lung, inhibiting bronchoconstriction and mucus secretion. Ipratropium has respiratory effects similar to atropine but since it is poorly absorbed into the blood, it has few side effects (such as tachycardia) at therapeutic doses.
