Drug-Vitamin-Herb Interactions


Negative interactions:

Calcium
Thiazide diuretics promote calcium retention, which increases levels.

Licorice
Licorice contains glycyrrhizin which promotes potassium loss, adding to the side effects of thiazide diuretics.

St JohnÕs Wort and Dong quai
St JohnÕs Wort and Dong quai may cause sensitivity to sunlight, adding to side effect of loop diuretics.


Positive interactions:

Magnesium, Potassium and Zinc
Thiazide diuretics promote magnesium, potassium and zinc loss, possibly leading to deficiency.
