Nystatin, Mycostatin

Description

Nystatin is a polyene antimycotic drug used primarily for Candida infection (candidiasis).

Nystatin is not absorbed from intact skin or mucous membranes and is considered a "clean" drug as it has no proven side effects.

Nystatin was isolated from the bacteria Streptomyces noursei in 1950.

Action

antifungal - binds ergosterol in fungal cell membranes

Indications

Candida albicans, Candida guilliermondi, Candida krusei, Candida sp., candidiasis, Geotrichum lactis, mucocutaneous candidiasis, oropharyngeal candidiasis (thrush), vulvovaginal candidiasis,

abdominal pain, diarrhea, hyperglycemia, nausea/vomiting, urticaria,
