Ramipril, Altace Description Ramipril is an ACE inhibitor Action ACE inhibitor Indications heart failure, hypertension Side Effects angioedema, azotemia, cough (dry, continuing, worse at night), diarrhea, dizziness, dysgeusia (loss of taste), fatigue, headache, hyperkalemia (confusion; irregular heartbeat; nervousness; numbness or tingling in hands, feet, or lips; shortness of breath or difficult breathing; weakness or heaviness of legs), hypotension (dizziness, lightheadedness, or fainting), orthostatic hypotension, sinus tachycardia, syncope, neutropenia or agranulocytosis (fever and chills), pancreatitis, (abdominal pain; nausea; vomiting; abdominal distention; fever) Drug-Vitamin-Herb Interactions Negative interactions: Arginine High doses of arginine may alter potassium levels. ACE Inhibitors may cause potassium retention. Iron Iron can interfere with absorption of ACE Inhibitors. Take at a different time of day. Licorice Licorice can cause sodium retention and raise blood pressure, which may counteract the actions of ACE Inhibitors. Potassium ACE Inhibitors may cause potassium retention, possibly resulting in hyperkalemia (excess potassium). St JohnÕs Wort and Dong Quai St JohnÕs Wort and Dong Quai can cause increased sensitivity to the sun, adding to side effect of ACE inhibitors. Positive interactions: Zinc ACE inhibitors cause depletion of zinc. Zinc supplements may help prevent this.
